Harrah's Casino Tunica (formerly Grand Casino) History

One of the nicer joints in Tunica is about to get nicer. Harrah's, owner of the Grand Casino, announced in October 2007 that they would upgrade and rebrand the place with new hotel rooms in both towers, new restaurants (including a Paula Deen's Buffet) and additional retail and dining options.

Harrah's Casino Tunica (formerly Grand Casino Resort) is one of the nicer joints in Tunica area. They boast three separate luxury hotels, a skeet shooting range, spa, golf course, tennis, outdoor pools, and seven restaurants. Veranda Hotel is adjacent to the golf course and features 568 rooms and suites. No flat screen TVs (yet). The Terrace Hotel offers "some" of the same amenities, but the rooms aren't nearly as nice as the Veranda Hotel. When making reservations, request the Veranda Hotel.

All of the hotel rooms are currently being renovated with a target completion date of May 2008 for the first tower and September 2008 for the second tower.

Harrah's Casino Tunica (formerly Grand Casino Tunica) has a massive casino that features over 2,000 slot machines and 80 table games. Its massive, spacious and the closest you'll find to a Vegas style casino anywhere outside of Nevada and New Jersey. Huge.

Absolutely gigantic casino floor with typical Tunica rules and limits on blackjack. But their craps pit is sort of unusual. On a Wednesday night they were running three $10, whereas most every other casino in Tunica always has at least one $5 table. Guess they gotta pay for these renovations..Speaking of, avoid the "temporary" buffet like the plague. The food absolutely awful, tasteless, overcooked, and not nearly worth the pricetag. I had one of the new Veranda rooms comped, which was quite an improvement over my stay last year. Very chic room design with a nice flatscreen tv. If only it had more than 12 channels....

I finally made it to Harrah's for the first time since the rebranding. It's now certainly the most modern looking casino in Tunica, adding a bit of fun to the experience. Table limits are still high, even on weeknights, but they still manage to draw a crowd. The new Paula Deen Buffet is a great experience, and the new Sphere bar is a nice touch. This place has a very fun atmosphere, but I'd go elsewhere if you're looking to stretch your gambling dollar.
