Black Hawk Colorado is a mining town approximately 30 winding miles west of Denver where gold was discovered in the 1850's. Gambling was legalized in Black Hawk (and nearby Central City) Colorado in 1991. Since that time the decrepit mining town has flourished and now features over 20 casinos.
Unlike other gaming destinations, Black Hawk's casinos are mostly small store front affairs featuring under 200 slots and maybe 2 blackjack tables. In the past decade three larger casino companies have opened casinos that emulate their riverboat operations elsewhere. Currently, Isle of Capri, Ameristar, and the Riviera are the largest casino operations in Black Hawk.
